Samburu/Shaba/Meru National Parks

Samburu National Reserve is located on the banks of the Ewaso Ng'iro in the Samburu District of the Rift Valley province. The reserve was one of the two areas in which George and Joy Adamson raised Elsa the lioness, made famous in the book and film Born Free.

Shaba National Reserve, located near Samburu, is a low-lying, semi-arid region also on the southern bank of the Ewaso Ng'iro River. The region is dominated by Shaba hill in the south, where you can find a rugged area full of steep ravines.

Meru National Park is a forest reserve near Shaba and Samburu and was once also the home of the Adamsons and their famous lioness. This area was restored to its natural grandeur in the early part of the twenty-first century and has become a promising tourist destination.
