Rift Valley/Lakes

The Rift Valley Province of Kenya is named for its Great African Rift that runs all the way through Kenya starting where it crosses over from Ethiopia, and south by some of Kenya’s famous lakes.

The Great African Rift is home to many of Kenya’s people, including nomadic tribes like the Samburu and Maasai.  These fascinating cultures mix with the remaing farmers of the Kikuyu and the hunter-gatherers of the Ogiek who still make their homes in the Kenyan forests for a wonderful array of simple lifestyles and rich backgrounds.

While in the Rift Valley, stop and visit the lakes which have been noted as Global 200 priority ecoregions for its 800 species of cichlid fish.
