Sabuk
Sabuk is perched on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River in northern Laikipia overlooking the beautiful bush scenery and rocky river below. This remote and beautiful land is a great location to enjoy walking safaris and fly camping among the big game populations of the area. The Laikipia Plateau stretches from the Aberdares to the Northern Frontier District and the Mathews Range and is home to a diversity of wildlife and culture.
Property Details
The lodge consists of six cottages and a two bedroom family unit. Each of the open-sided cottages is en suite and has fabulous views from their private verandas. The Eagle Cottage is perfect for families and has two bathrooms, a large sitting and dining area, and a private plunge pool. The entire lodge was constructed from local materials and designed to complement the surrounding landscape.
The Laikipia Maasai and Samburu, among others, make their home here amid greater kudu, reticulated giraffe, buffalo, impala, elephant, klipspringer, zebra, eland, dik dik, waterbuck, lion, leopard, hyena, and wild dog. The lodge emphasizes walking safaris with the highly trained Laikipia Maasai guides, but game drives are possible. Bird watching is excellent in Laikipia, and in season, the river holds a number of exciting opportunities like swimming, tubing, and fishing. Bush breakfasts and sundowners are possible, as are private meals on request.
For clients spending three or more days at Sabuk, there is an excellent fly camping option with five tents available. You will walk with a professional guide, a team of camels, and trained Laikipia Maasai warriors into deserted wilderness areas and camp under the stars with just the wildlife and breathtaking scenery around you.
