Property Details
The cottages at Manda Bay are set up in two groups: eleven are beach front and five are sea view, set slightly behind the others on higher ground. The cottages have been designed to blend with the natural landscape and are constructed of local materials. Each cottage has en suite bathrooms and private verandas overlooking the Indian Ocean. The cottages can easily be arranged to accommodate families, while still providing quiet privacy for couples looking for a romantic getaway. The central dining area, bar and lounge, games room, and water sports center, like the cottages, all feature locally crafted furnishings and décor.
The long white sand beaches, numerous islets, blue waters, and fascinating landscape of the island beg to be explored, and the lodge offers a variety of ways to do this. Whether your desire is to relax and rejuvenate, learn about the history of the region, or explore the natural beauty, the lodge is equipped for your every need. Explore the Manda Ruins, just a 20 minute walk from the lodge, or take a 20 minute boat ride to Lamu, an ancient coastal town that was once an important stop on the Arab trade routes and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Diving and snorkeling are fabulous in the clear waters around the island, and other water sports are available like kayaking, laser sailing, windsurfing, and water skiing. Fishing is excellent any time, and you can enjoy deep sea fishing, fly fishing, or fishing from a skiff, depending on your tastes. The lodge also has a private dhow for sundowner cruises, and the dhow can also be chartered for special cruises of the archipelago.
The lodge is privileged to have a special combination of both marine and land wildlife. Drives and walking tours can be arranged on the island to seek out the amazing bird species as well as both small and large land mammals. Off the coast, humpback whales are often seen in October, and dolphins are common from December to March.
The lodge itself features a beach view swimming pool, and massage services are available for guests to relax during their long, arduous days in paradise. The lodge dining room serves excellent creations using fresh seafood from the local waters and traditional influences. Guests wishing to dine in privacy can have their meals on their private veranda while enjoying the stunning ocean views.
