Kionondo Kwetu

Kionondo Kwetu is truly a home away from home, with owners Ida and Filip Andersson living on site in this protected paradise. The surrounding holy forests and sacred land are protected by the National Museum, and the lodge itself is located on a private beach south of Diani, providing secluded, tranquil accommodations. The lodge is perfect for travelers looking for a relaxing beach holiday or, for those seeking adventure, there is a wide range of activities on hand.

Property Details

Kionondo Kwetu offers various forms of accommodation for its guests and can lodge up to 38 guests at any one time. Every room has a unique character, with furnishings and décor of Swahili handicraft and antiquities. The Mama Taa Villa features six suites, three upstairs and three downstairs. Two of the suites are en suite double rooms, and the other four have an en suite bedroom with connecting doors to a private sitting room that can be converted to a second bedroom. There are four cottages on site: the Shimba, Twiga, and Songoro are en suite double cottages, and the Mbuyu cottage has a double bedroom and a connecting single bedroom with a shared bathroom. The Mama Tina Villa is the original residence and has one en suite double room and two single rooms with a shared bathroom.

The lodge has two kitchens and can easily be divided into two parts allowing for large groups to have a semi-private experience. The secluded location also means that honeymooners will always be able to find that special place to enjoy the romantic tranquility of the Indian Ocean. The lodge’s quiet environment draws experts from around the world for special yoga events throughout the year, and the grounds feature a number of health and well-being facilities including a fitness area, two swimming pools, tennis courts, a sauna, and massage and beauty services.

For the adventurous, there are numerous water and land-based activities. Enjoy fishing, wind surfing, water skiing, boat excursions, and snorkeling. One of the swimming pools is large enough to serve as a PADI training center, and diving in the nearby coral reefs is always exciting. The lodge has its own stables, and rides can be arranged for experienced riders to explore the forest or beach or for the less experienced to practice in the paddock. Mountain biking along the beach is exciting, and you can also experience game drives at the nearby Shimba Hills National Reserve. Visit the nearby Kinondo Village or arrange for sightseeing and shopping trips to Ukunda or Mombasa.
