The Orchard
On the edge of one of India's most popular sites of pilgrimage in Pushkar, the tents of The Orchard offer rest and reflection. Set in a lush garden on private, locally-owned land, guests of this seasonal retreat experience authentic rural India with touches of luxury.
Property Details
Modeled after the local style of simple canvas housing, the 12 semi-permanent tents are stunning statements of elegance in the desert. Individual 590 square-foot havens include a permanent en suite bathroom with shower, a bedroom and separate living and dressing areas. Each suite is air conditioned throughout, with electricity and additional creature comforts of plush robes, slippers and running hot water. Beautiful hardwood furnishings grace the contemporary interiors, accented by Rajasthani blue pottery, marble lamps and a sheer silk curtain that separates the bedroom from the rest of the suite. Guests are greeted each evening with the resort’s signature turndown service of incense, aromatherapies and rose petals fresh from the gardens.
The Amla, or Indian gooseberry tree, and groves of roses and other flowers decorate the grounds of The Orchard. The gardens also contain home grown vegetables, cared for in sustainable fashion by the local residents. These same villagers own the resort’s land and are your hosts, providing world-class hospitality that is familiar and cozy. Dine during the day with a 360-degree view of the surrounding orchard in the circular Golgan tent. Out of reverence for the nearby holy site of Pushkar, meals are exclusively vegetarian and no alcoholic beverages are served. In the evenings, dinner is presented with entertainment around a glowing bonfire.
A wide range of activities can be found at camp and beyond. Take a guided trek to Pushkar’s over 400 temples and sacred lake, with camel carts available if you prefer not to walk. Cultural excursions include a trip to a local artisian village and a visit to a neighborhood school to provide lunch to the nearly 300 students there. Yoga instruction can be arranged on the grounds, and guests will thrill during hot air balloon rides over the city of Pushkar. Visit during November to experience the annual Pushkar Camel Fair, a colorful bazaar full of trade and festivities to celebrate the five holy days where the Hindu god Brahma is said to bless the city.
