Bamurru Plains

Located on a working buffalo station just a short distance from the coast and the western border of the Kakadu National Park, Bamurru Plains is a unique bush camp on the Mary River floodplains, designed to bring a touch of elegance to the remote and beautiful wilderness.

Property Details

There are only nine safari suites at Bamurru Plains. They are built among the savanna bush that fringes the floodplains and each is en suite and raised on a timber platform. The concept of the camp is simple in that it provides the key comforts like a comfortable bed, plush linens and a high pressure shower, but the focus of your stay is the environment around you and the wildlife that calls this area home. Each suite is designed to blend into the bush and expose you to the sights and sounds of the natural environment. There are no telephones, televisions, or CD players to distract you from your experience. You will see no other tourists during your stay, as the camp is exclusive.

Meals are wholesome yet innovative. Local produce and traditional cuisine is incorporated into the meals and guests can dine in the comfortable lodge building, enjoying the fantastic environment. Hosts provide guests with an informal and personal level of attention that is only possible at a small lodge.

Activities, like your accommodations, focus on natural discovery and exploration. The Mary River area is home to over 230 species of birds and numerous other wildlife species including wallaby, wallaroo, dingos, and wild pigs and buffalo as well as night species like possums, water monitors, and other reptiles and amphibians. Enjoy an airboat tour on the Mary River floodplains or river cruises on the Sampan River where you can find one of the largest populations of crocodiles in the world. Fishing on the Sampan River or offshore reefs can be arranged with expert guides. During the dry season safari drives are popular and you can arrange a day trip to Kakadu or Arnhem Land.
