New South Wales (Sydney & surrounds)
The fabulous, sun-soaked region of New South Wales is Australia’s most populated state. Tucked in to the southeast corner of the country, just north of Victoria and south of Queensland, New South Wales has had several changes to its boundaries over the years. It was founded in 1788 and took up most of mainland Australia as well as Lord Howe Island and Norfolk Island. A little known fact is that while New Zealand was not initially part of New South Wales, it was annexed for a very brief period of time by the British in the 1840′s.
Although New South Wales is home to many incredible coastal regions, one eclipses them all: Sydney. This harbor city is a well-known tourist destination, largely due to its unique Sydney Opera House, designed in the 1960′s and 70′s by Danish architect Jørn Utzon. Sydney Opera House is not the only thing to see while you’re in the land down under. Stroll the entire Sydney Harbor or take a ferry ride out for a better view. Take a dolphin cruise throughout Jervis Bay or even ski the mountains in the winter time.
