Itinerary Description:

Begin your journey in Kigali, the commercial heart of Rwanda, and the Kigali Serena Hotel. Here you will learn about the recent tumultuous past at the Kigali Genocide Memorial Center. This permanent exhibition and powerful memorial to the hundreds of thousands killed during the Rwandan genocide in the mid-1990s also serves as a place for the survivors of the massacres to document their stories.

Continue to Butare, Rwanda's cultural capital, stopping at the King's Palace in Nyanza and the National Museum of Rwanda. Trace the history of the country’s tribal leaders, monarchy and colonial period through the collection of traditional artifacts and rare pre-colonial photographs at the museum, known as one of the best in Africa.

The Nyungwe Forest Lodge perches on a tea plantation at the edge of the rainforest. Relax mere steps away from the abundant wildlife in the forest in luxurious cabins with private balconies. If you're lucky, you may see some forest denizens just outside your window. You will embark with skilled guides on a chimpanzee trek through the varied terrains and climates in Nyungwe Forest National Park.

Next, continue to Volcanoes National Park, the park that was the home of Dian Fossey while she spent 20 years studying mountain gorillas. Spend the next three days at the Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge, located just minutes from the main entrance to the park, and one unforgettable gorilla trekking experience.

Return to Kigali before your departure and spend your final night in Rwanda at Kigali Serena once again, recalling your fond memories of encounters with Rwanda's majestic wildlife.
