Itinerary Description:

Kenya is the homeland of the Maasai, a semi-nomadic African tribe. The tall and slender Maasai wear bright cloth dyed in vivid shades of red and blue, letting them stand out nobly against the stark landscape. This itinerary will help you to explore the Maasai culture while experiencing amazing game viewing on foot or by vehicle.

Stay for two nights on the edge of the Amboseli National Park in the shadow of Mt. Kilimanjaro at Tortilis Camp. Discover large matriarchal elephant herds, or visit the Maasai manyattas (villages) to meet the fascinating inhabitants.

Continue on safari to Meru National Park and Elsa’s Kopje (pronounced “copy”) in the area made famous by George and Joy Adamson’s film Born Free. The lodge, named for Elsa the lioness, is built near the original camp site and blends completely into the surrounding landscape. Enjoy game drives, fishing and rafting, and some time at the Tharaka tribal village.

Finally, head to the Masai Mara National Reserve and your accommodations at Saruni, where you can enjoy game viewing in open safari vehicles and game walks with Maasai trackers in this area teeming with wildlife.
