Bedouin Trails
Your journey begins as you arrive in the exciting city of Amman. From your home base at the best hotel in the city, The Four Seasons Amman, you'll venture out to the City of Jerash. Located 30 miles north of Amman and nestled in a quiet valley among the mountains of Gilead, Jerash is one of the largest and most well preserved sites of Roman architecture in the world outside Italy. To this day, its paved and colonnaded streets, soaring hilltop temples, handsome theaters, spacious public squares and plazas, baths, fountains and city walls pierced by towers and gates remain in exceptional condition. From here you will travel to Aljun to see the Aljun Castle, an ancient stronghold for the Arabs against the Crusaders in 1184 AD. Next, drive north to Um Qais, formerly the Roman city of Gadara. This is the site of the miracle of the Gadarene swine, where Jesus sent demented spirits out of a man into a herd of swine who ran down the hill and drowned in the Sea of Galilee.
You'll then travel to Madaba, Mount Nebo, and Um Rassas as you drive to the ancient city of Petra. You'll stop to see old Christian villages, the Jordan Valley, Byzantine church remains, and the impressive ruins of an ancient Roman stronghold at Um Rassas. But you'll lose your breath when you finally come upon Petra and its Treasury. You have the full day to explore Petra in-depth. Your guide will walk you through the Siq, a narrow defile in the towering rock and you will enter at the “Treasury.” As the hidden valley opens before you, you will see the Nabatean “Rose Red City – half as old as time.” Marvel at the incredible multi-hued sandstone rock coloring, tombs, temples and the amphitheater.
Your journey will then come to a close as you visit the Wadi Rum and the Dead Sea areas of Jordan. You'll enjoy four wheel drive vehicles as you make your way across the Wadi to ancient rock carvings, a view of the Seven Pillars of Wisdom, Lawrence's Jail, and an old railway. You'll also spend one of your desert nights under the stars and a vintage-style bedouin tent in the Wadi for a true Jordanian experience. You'll also take time out to visit the Baptismal Site of Jesus Christ by John the Baptist, a UNESCO World Heritage Site like the Petra Treasury. Then at the Dead Sea, you'll have the opportunity to unwind in the elegant luxury of the Evason Ma'In Hot Springs and Six Senses Spa. An award winning spa awaits you as well as signature LIFE Experiences, all of which will rejuvenate your body and spirit before your journey home.
