Desert Rhino Camp is a luxury safari lodge located in Namibia's enigmatic Damaraland. Set in the Palmwag Concession among the rocky hills of the region, guests will feel a true sense of life, beauty, and tranquility.
Desert Rhino Camp is a luxurious safari lodge set amidst Namibia’s most beautiful surrounds. This lodge is operated in conjunction with the Save the Rhino Trust, an organization that has been solely responsible for helping to ensure that these rare, desert-adapted black rhino survive. A portion of revenue from the camp contributes to the Trust and its rhino conservation projects. In spite of the slaughter that occurred in the late 20th century, which nearly eliminated the entire species, the reserve today is home to the highest number of free-ranging black rhino in Africa. The guides at Desert Rhino Camp lead tracking explorations from camp every day, in search of these wonderful desert dwellers and other desert-adapted wildlife.
Wildlife here flourishes, despite the first impression of inhospitable semi-desert terrain. Set in a wide valley, the area around camp is green and lush at specific times of the year, and is always dotted with euphorbia and ancient welwitschia plants. Looking out over this massive carpet of emerald is nothing short of breathtaking for guests who are lucky enough to experience it, and it is a sight best viewed from one of the eight Meru-style private tents.
Accommodating only 16 guests at any given time, the tents at Desert Rhino Camp are raised off of the ground to take full advantage of the sweeping views from each private deck. Each tent has an en suite bath fitted with classic bucket showers and warmly heated water. The tents are spacious and elegant with timber floors, canvas walls, mosquito netting, and a constant panorama of the intriguing landscape.
The main lodge at Desert Rhino Camp has a beautiful dining area, serving classic English breakfasts, local Namibian dishes, and hearty meals that are prepared with only the freshest and finest ingredients. Guests may cool off in the swimming pool between game drives, and in the evenings the fire pit is lit to provide the centerpiece for conversation and relaxation.Request Information
