One part working hacienda and one part Relais & Chateaux hotel, Hacienda Hotel Vira Vira is an indelible extension of its wild and beautiful landscape amid the romantic lakes, jagged peaks, ancient Mapuche culture, and gently puffing volcanoes surrounding peaceful Pucón. The result is what Hacienda Hotel Vira Vira refers to as “the elegance of adventure”—an experience defined by tailor-made excursions, ecological farming activities, exquisite local cuisine, and all-inclusive luxury within Chile’s natural beauty.

Property Details

Hacienda Hotel Vira Vira exists in a lakeside setting one might expect to find in Switzerland, with the exception of the perfect conical frame of Volcano Villarica rising over the landscape. It is fitting, then, that Swiss owners Michael and Claudia Paravicini are the purveyors behind the Pucón region’s first luxury hotel. Their vision was simple yet nuanced: introduce the world to this slice of paradise through luxuriously handcrafted suites and deliciously healthy food sourced straight from the hacienda’s modern farm and cheese dairy. Vision in place, Michael and Claudia worked with Chilean designer Cristian Valdés to bring it to life, emboldening all 21 rooms with reclaimed local woods, hand-woven textiles, restored antiques, and pieces from local artists like sculptor Mariana Canepa. Rooms are spread between three types of accommodations: the six cozy rooms and single master suite within the lagoon-side main hotel, the 12 exquisite villa suites stretched out along the Liucura River, and the family-style rooms in the original hacienda for those who want a more integrated farm experience. Finally, there is the Ruca, a stand-alone private suite situated on the second floor of the activities center in the middle of the forest.

Every day at Hacienda Hotel Vira Vira is an opportunity to explore a new adventure or experience the ambiance of this ancient Mapuche land. It begins with an ever-evolving blend of local, indigenous recipes created from the organic ingredients produced on the hacienda’s farm, from the vegetable garden greens and chicken eggs to the livestock of turkey and wild boar and the in-house cheese made with Swiss precision and care. Whether enjoyed as a packed lunch on an excursion or overlooking the lagoon next to the restaurant’s open fireplace, Chilean Chef Jose Torres Carillo promises a tantalizing, all-inclusive dining experience paired with one of the hotel’s 1,000 bottles of fine Chilean wines.

Hacienda Hotel Vira Vira offers a wealth of bespoke adventures, designed to meet each guest’s interests. Each day, guests meet with their personal excursion manager to decide their excursions for the day, be it horse trekking in the Cordilleras, hiking in one of the surrounding untouched National Parks, sailing on Lake Villarrica, kayaking through the beautiful lagoons, fishing in the Liucura River, or exploring the active behemoth of Volcano Villarica by foot, plane, or underground within its labyrinth of caves. Of course, guests are also always welcome to simply stay at the hacienda for hands-on interactions at the farm, helping to harvest the corn or making cheese and yogurt at the dairy. Each activity is an invitation to engage in this special place, all the way down to the evening soaks in the property’s spring-fed hot tubs, listening to the sounds of the Liucura River with Pisco Sour in hand.
